Veterinarian - Hospital Owner
Steve Carter, DVM
Dr. Steve Carter graduated from Colorado State University school of veterinary medicine in 1981. He returned to his first job in Park city Utah to practice companion animal medicine. He sold that practice to join Valley Animal Medical Center in 1984 in Indio California. Dr. Carter developed a sport horse practice at El Dorado Polo Club in 1985 and opened the first equine surgical hospital in the Coachella Valley, Desert Equine Hospital in 1986. He also maintained a surgical practice at Helen Woodward Veterinary Hospital in Rancho, Santa Fe, California. He founded the Desert Trails Foundation with Barbara Sinatra and Merv Griffin in 1987. Through their efforts, many of the equestrian trails in and around the eastern Coachella Valley were created, established, and protected. He has been a member of desert riders for 30 years.
In 1993 Dr. Carter moved to Salt Lake City to spend time with his family. He became chief of staff of Willow Creek Veterinary Hospital in 1993 to 1998 and was instrumental in designing and establishing this award-winning AAHA hospital in South Salt Lake. He then retired to his Wyoming ranch until 2001 when he returned to the Coachella Valley. He served as chief of staff of Valley Animal Medical Center 2001 to 2003. Dr. Carter consulted with a privately funded animal rescue with Aaron Keck in Kona, Hawaii establishing an animal medical surgical hospital and rescue center from 2005 to 2008. He then built Carter Animal Hospital in 2004 in Thayne, Wyoming. In 2010 he opened Teton Animal Hospital in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Carter Animal Hospital in Cathedral City, California in 2007. Dr. Carter had additional private referral surgical practice in Casper, Lander, and Boulder, Wyoming.
While practicing in Wyoming he served on the board of Lucky’s place animal rescue in Star Valley and Teton Valley Animal Shelter in Idaho along with the Jackson Hole Humane Society. Currently, he is living in Rancho Mirage, California, and Bedford, Wyoming. He is a member of the AVMA, CVMA, WVMA AAHA, and SDVMA, and a Fellow of the American Laser Society. Dr. Carter maintains his private pilot's license and is a member of the Cirrus Pilots Association. Dr. Carter welcomes all new clients to Carter Animal Hospital in Cathedral City; LGBT owned and dedicated to exceptional care for our expanding community.

Veterinarian
Dean Wilson, DVM
Dr. Wilson grew up in Southern Oregon on a sheep/hay farm. He is a graduate of both Oregon State University and Washington State University Veterinary School of Medicine. Dr. Wilson started his career as a large animal veterinarian but quickly switched into treating dogs, cats and pocket pets exclusively. He is trained and enjoys both internal medicine and soft tissue/orthopedic surgery. Dr. Wilson has a special interest in feline medicine.
He enjoys spending time with his husband, exploring their new life here in Coachella valley and the surrounding Southern California.

A native of the Coachella Valley, Lori brings a lifelong passion for animals as well as a strong background of thirty years in the veterinary field. Starting at a young age, her love of animals blossomed and led her naturally to a career in the veterinary industry. Although she can most often be found on the phone or assisting with clients, getting to know each and every patient, she also enjoys the personal interaction involved in building and maintaining client relationships. Lori’s energy, drive, and above all, compassion are integral and evident in her daily duties.

Jennine was born in Palm Springs and graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Hawaii. She has worked as a Veterinary Technician for 28 years & in Veterinary Medicine for 30 years. In her free time, she likes to ride horses and spend time with her Miniature Frenchie.

Registered Veterinary Technician - Treatment Manager
Jesse
Jesse was born and raised in Chihuahua Mexico and became a licensed veterinarian from Mexico in 2003. Jesse has 20 years of experience in the veterinary field and works as the Surgical RVT for Carter Animal Hospital. Jesse became a Registered Veterinary Technician from the state of Nevada and the state of California on May 2022. In his free time, he likes to go for long walks with his lovely dog Milo and hike at local parks.

Hi, I'm Tony, I have been working with animals for over 20 years. I have a certificate for canine trigger point therapy and I’m happy I’m able to help animals. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering in my local and surrounding community and spending time with my daughters.

Allison
Born and raised in Palm Springs, Allison joined Carter Animal Hospital in 2011 and has been in the veterinary field for over 12 years. She loves problem-solving and serving her dynamic team. Her sweet smile reassures clients their pet is in good hands! Allison puts the treat into treatment, assisting with clients in the exam rooms to a helping hand in treatment. Allison received her Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substances Permit (VACSP) and her Pro Pet Hero First Aid and CPR for Pets in 2021.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family. At home, she has 2 dogs, a Dalmatian and a German shorthair Pointer; and also 2 cats, a Sphynx, and a Russian Blue. She loves spending time at the beach with her husband and exploring marine wildlife.

Chrissy joined the Carter Animal Hospital team in 2009 and can’t imagine doing anything else. She has a strong passion for being part of the support staff and caring for and showing love and respect to each patient and client she comes into contact with. Chrissy is a Palm Springs native. In her free time, you can find her creating pottery, practicing yoga, and taking camping trips to her favorite little mountain town in the Eastern Sierra.

Edwin was born and raised in the Philippines and has a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. Has worked as Veterinary Technician since 2008 in Los Angeles CA (San Fernando Valley area) moved to Coachella Valley last 2018 and joined Carter Animal Hospital in November 2021. In his free time, Edwin enjoys staying home and cooking and watching TV.

Veterinary Technician Assistant
Chris
Christopher was born and raised in Ontario CA and has worked hand in hand with the CCPAL, SPCA of Texas, and California and the Cal Guard animal rescue support team since 2018. In 2018 he volunteered to support the fire mission in Shasta and Trinity counties (CARR FIRE). In 2019 Chris spent most of his summer supporting the U.S border with Mexico mission. In 2020 he was activated in support of the Covid-19 Crisis and helped Food Banks throughout California. During that time, he assisted with LA county sheriff's during the BLM movement. During the end of that year, he served in an Animal rescue support team for the August Complex Fire where he helped aid, rescue and provide shelters for large and small animals.
Chris is currently focusing his animal experience in the Veterinary profession. He serves as a Sergeant with the California Army National Guard. During his free time, he loves spending time with family, traveling and exercising.
